Actually I have a mild obsession with them. If a story is good, I will read the same book multiple times, watch a movie until I’ve practically memorized it, or see the same Broadway show a dozen times. Some of my favorites are:
- Lord of the Rings (I mean come on! Who doesn’t love Tolkien?)
- Chronicles of Narnia (Aslan! Enough said. Oh and books only. The movies really disappointed)
- Les Miserables (I weep EVERY. SINGLE. TIME I see this show)
- The Alchemist (I read it at least once a year and every time I get something different out of it)
Few things thrill me as much as seeing characters live out great stories, whether in a book, a movie or in real life!
Life Is A Story
Our lives are a story and I believe all of us are part of a bigger story that is being told. I believe that God is slowly and methodically telling Himself a story and each of us has a part to play in that story.
The problem is most of us are not living into the greatness of our story.
Our story feels incomplete, almost as if something is missing. We go through our days with the nagging sense that something just isn’t right. It’s not that we want our names in bright flashing lights; it’s just that something feels off about our lives at the moment.
It’s not even that our lives are bad. For most of us, any outsider looking in would say our life was great but on the inside our story feels stuck on repeat to us. Our days look essentially the same, our lives feel routine and we feel lost or stuck with no clear sense of how things can change. All the while we can’t shake the feeling that something is missing.
More Than You Have Become
In the Lion King (another favorite of mine), Mufasa shows up in the stars one night and whispers these words to Simba, “You have forgotten who you are…you are more than you have become”. I think for a lot of us, the Father whispers those same words to our hearts “You are more than you have become”. And when we hear those words something resonates inside us. Something begins to stir deep within us. A YES starts to quietly rise up in us.
My name is Makeda (named for the Ethiopian Queen of Sheba) and I am passionate about seeing you fully awaken to the story your life is meant to tell; to fully awaken to your role, your unique part in God’s bigger story. I want to see you take a leading role in your story, instead of the supporting role you’ve unwittingly resolved yourself to.
You are meant for more and the stories and posts I share here are all aimed at helping you own your voice and your story so you can rise into your best self. Please feel free to look around and if you like what you read, then hit the little button on the right so you can be notified when I post something new. My goal is to always be encouraging yet challenging. We only get one chance at this life. This is not a dress rehearsal so let’s make it the best life we can possibly make it.
