This week the prompt over on 52 Photos Project was street art. One of the advantages to living in a major city is that there are a plethora of options from which to choose. But I didn’t get a chance to go out earlier in the week and I found myself scrambling to make sure I got a pic up for this week’s prompt. So I went someplace close to my house and chose an art piece that is under a bridge in an up and coming part of Charlotte called North Davidson or NoDa for short. NoDa is in the midst of a revitalization and the local art scene is helping in that process.
This is just a small portion of the bigger piece that spans both sides of the bridge underpass. The complete piece tells the story of the 1775 Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence, when Charlotte became the first community in the 13 colonies to declare independence from Great Britain. This pic captures the actual signing of the declaration which became the first step towards freedom for all the colonies. Gotta love that independent streak in those Charlotteans.
Any pieces of street art in your neighborhood strike your fancy? I’d love to hear about it or see it if you want to share a pic.
